About the role
The Operation Technician will operate, maintain and service all plant equipment including the engine generators, boilers, amine system, gas compressors, fiber dryer, pumps, conveyors, and motors. They will perform required analyses on all systems and add chemicals or fluids to keep levels in recommended ranges. The Operation Technician will monitor and diagnose control issues on systems integral to the operation of the plant. They will oversee and monitor the plant automation system and resolve issues on their own authority using both internal and external sources. The goal of the Operation Technician is to ensure that the plant is running smoothly and efficiently while also meeting quality, permit and safety standards.
Job Duties
- Control all plant equipment using SCADA.
- Respond to system alarms with appropriate action on their own authority.
- Identify need for parts out of inventory and order same.
- Call in outside expertise to correct system malfunction if needed.
- Lead plant outage repairs and major maintenance activities.
- Lead maintenance helpers as needed while performing maintenance and repair activities on all plant equipment.
- Start and stop engines, boiler, dryer, amine system, compressors, and other auxiliary equipment as necessary.
- Maintain all equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and other maintenance standards as adopted by the plant facility.
- Know regulatory compliance parameters and take action to maintain compliance and correct systems if performing out of compliance.
- Inspect records or logbook entries to ensure proper records are being maintained.
- Maintain quality and safety standards.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by Lead or Supervisor.
Requirements
- Trade or Vocational School in related area preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required.
- Experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of gas or diesel stationary engine power generating equipment, boilers, dryer, cooling tower, water softeners and related systems.
- Tools as required for the maintenance and overhaul of large, stationary engine generators.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to work a rotating, 24/7, 12-hour shift work schedule.

- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
