About the role

The Operations Technical Manager is responsible for providing leadership, technical expertise, and driving results across capital execution, site and facility maintenance, asset and productivity improvements while managing and minimizing labor & overhead costs while ensuring the highest levels of safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures mechanical and electrical expertise are available to production and other departments to maintain production systems, utilities, buildings and grounds in a 24-hour, 7-day per week operation.
  • Drives key initiatives around the standardization of "best practices" and policies for the Maintenance Department.
  • Provides leadership and direction to plant maintenance function covering the 24/7 operation.
  • Improves employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques.
  • Utilizes mechanical and electrical expertise to manage production systems, utilities, buildings and grounds.
  • Fully utilizes the EAM system in support of maintenance & engineering functions.
  • Responsible for Continuous Improvement programs related to engineering, to generate improvement plans that feature both short and long-term improvements, with and without capital investment.
  • Business driver of Value Stream Mapping and Lean Processes.
  • Drives key initiatives throughout the facility in the areas of Maintenance, fixed asset management, plant layout & flow manufacturing, managing floating bottlenecks, FDA/GMP/AIB compliance, safety and automation.
  • Trains staff members on new technologies (electrical controls, and other manufacturing technology).
  • Maintain effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management of Maintenance Mechanic(s), Maintenance Planner) directly and/or indirectly.
  • Drives key initiatives around refrigeration systems, plant utility systems, high-speed processing, and packaging/material handling systems.
  • Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups.
  • Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Engineering or related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Engineering, Project Management, Process Excellence, Black Belt or Maintenance.
  • 8-10 years’ progressive experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 5 years in a management role.
  • Extensive knowledge of operations from a technical perspective (Green Belt/Black Belt preferred).
  • High level management and business skills, extensive financial knowledge base as well as understanding of employment policies/procedures.
  • Organizational, interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to influence and impact all levels in the organization.
  • Able to lead processes to conclusions/recommendations.
  • Flexibility to expend discretionary effort as required to meet critical needs.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Able to travel up to 15%.
