Operations Supervisor - Transportation-$2500 Sign on Bonus (Supply Chain/Logistics)
Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader with relevant experience and skills to join our team of transportation and logistics professionals. We are looking for an Operations Supervisor to oversee drivers and operations at one of our locations, ensuring customer requirements are met while achieving Penske’s goals and objectives.
About the Role
Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities, including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations. This role involves supervising processes such as people, systems, customer needs, and equipment, as well as workforce and equipment scheduling. Responsibilities include performance management of direct reports, corrective action and disciplinary decisions up to the written warning level, involvement in the hiring process, and participation in customer meetings as needed.
Schedule
Sunday - Thursday, starting at 10:00 AM. Hours may vary depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
- People:
- Establish and sustain training and competency for all supervisors and associates, ensuring they understand how their work relates to customer business objectives.
- Communicate specific and measurable performance standards.
- Interview hourly associates and provide hiring recommendations.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards; provide coaching and counseling to associates.
- Motivate and engage associates by focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.
- Operations:
- Supervise logistics operations, including customer service, freight loading/unloading, dispatch, and proper documentation and procedure control.
- Conduct team meetings.
- Evaluate and recommend changes in work methods to increase productivity.
- Assist in new associate training.
- Provide relief coverage for operational duties during associate absences.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of site operating systems to ensure compliance and correct exception resolution.
- Complete all necessary records and reports accurately and timely.
- Finance:
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, such as tracking MPG, returns, and damages.
- Understand the relationship between decision-making and profitability.
- Manage associates' working hours and activities to minimize overtime and meet or exceed productivity targets.
- Safety:
- Align day-to-day management and associate activities with the location safety strategy.
- Provide associates with communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures.
- Conduct safety observations.
- Growth / Customer Experience:
- Understand and work to meet or exceed location-specific customer goals and objectives daily.
- Ensure the customer knows we are committed to helping them meet their objectives.
- Identify areas that could benefit from Continuous Improvement efforts.
- Fleet/Assets:
- Plan work assignments to ensure effective use of fleet equipment.
- Work with hourly associates to ensure they understand safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure equipment is maintained.
- Work with Penske Truck Leasing to ensure the schedule of preventative maintenance is complete.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect, build rapport, and maintain solid relationships with associates, company leadership, internal and external customers.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including active listening.
- Ability to manage problems, think critically, and make decisions independently.
- Ability to drive process improvement and lead change.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ownership and responsibility to run the operation with a sense of urgency.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete a Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (including past employment, education, and criminal history), and drug screening.
Pay
This role is bonus-eligible based on individual and location performance.
