About the Role
This role serves to lead, manage, and mentor store associates who face barriers to employment. The Supervisor, Retail Operations is responsible for developing store associates to find and gain meaningful employment, coordinating vocational rehabilitation counseling with Development Counseling Services, and maintaining operational excellence. Success is measured by store associate outplacement, staffing, and operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Associate Stewardship:
- Lead and supervise 12-25 store associates with disabilities or other barriers to self-reliance.
- Schedule and coordinate store associate plans of care with Development Counseling Services.
- Implement behavior management techniques, including de-escalation strategies, to drive performance.
- Manage the store associate training program, covering schedule, time management, and soft skills.
- Lead teams in retail sales, merchandising, warehouse operations, and donation center logistics.
- Balance advanced skills training with daily operations for store associates.
- Manage and coordinate vocational plans for each associate in collaboration with Development Counseling Services.
- Maintain a confidential database of work and productivity behaviors for assigned associates.
- Ready-For-Work Program:
- Instruct, monitor, and provide frequent feedback on work standards, including time and attendance, communication, leadership, honesty, reliability, and following instructions.
- Conduct weekly assessments of work behaviors and quarterly evaluations.
- Drive improvements in behavior and productivity using observational data.
- Provide input for individual development plans for each associate.
- Model Ready for Work program behaviors, such as attendance, punctuality, task focus, work quality, and pace.
- Store Operations:
- Supervise retail store operations across merchandising, inventory, and donation processing.
- Address complex customer needs regarding policies, pricing, and donations.
- Oversee donation center logistics, including supplies, product flow, staffing, heavy equipment, and customer service.
- Make immediate judgments on hazardous donations according to OSHA guidelines and store policies.
- Enforce safety protocols and respond to incidents.
- Manage point-of-sale (POS) operations, including cash handling, Welfare vouchers, and processing deposits.
- Supervise cashier teams to ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Partner with management to maintain store standards.
- People Management:
- Regularly supervise the work of store associates.
- Provide recommendations on hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or other employment status changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, education, social work, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of experience in training, education, or business settings, including retail, warehouse, or customer service operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, training, and/or supervision.
- Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds, walk, and stand for long periods; bend, twist, and climb as needed.
- Strong customer service experience and ability to interact successfully with diverse demographics.
Skills
