Position Overview
General Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintains schedule adherence by serving as a Road Supervisor, Service Coordinator, working in the Radio Room, or at Dispatch.
- Dispatches personnel and equipment in response to service requests to ensure all runs are dispatched on time.
- Makes sure bus operators are fit for duty, ensuring compliance with company mandates, policies, and procedures.
- Formulates responses to situations quickly to minimize service disruptions and maintain safety.
- Communicates alternate route detours based on construction, accidents, or special conditions.
- Investigates and responds to all accidents and incidents during tour of duty.
- Promptly notifies managerial personnel of serious incidents and accidents to meet reporting requirements.
- Contacts and interacts with emergency services, secures accident scenes, assesses property damage, and assists operators in gathering information.
- Prepares and maintains manual and computerized files and records including operations reports, incident logs, accident reports, and data concerning service interruptions, cancellations, and vehicle breakdowns.
- Completes attendance records, daily absentee reports, extra board work assignments, dispatch sheet, and records all required information.
- Reports to hospitals where passengers or others involved are transported, gathering pertinent information and notifying company officials as appropriate.
- Makes sure drivers are operating safely, issuing violations for improper lane changes, excessive speed, tailgating, etc.
- Utilizes radar equipment for speed control.
- Makes sure overall performance is monitored and investigated; handles service complaints from Director of Operations or Westchester County Department of Transportation; records driving infractions or violations of company policy or procedure; answers drivers’ questions regarding routes, policy etc.; counsels drivers on performance when necessary.
- Acts as a bus operator to meet company demands.
Position Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Excellent New York State Commercial Driver’s License and 19-A qualification required.
- At least 1 year experience operating a commercial vehicle, preferably a bus, required.
- At least 1 year working for Liberty Lines Transit Inc. required.
- Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent CDL Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements required.
- No chargeable accidents within the last year required.
- Ability to operate / drive a bus on an emergency basis, as needed required.
- Acceptable attendance record required.
- Less than 4 points on current driving abstract at time of application submission required.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Ability to respond physically to emergencies required.
- Ability to perform bus-related duties such as light bus maintenance required.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing required.
- Ability to climb stairs, reach above shoulder level, walk extended distances, stand in moving vehicle, kneel, and sit for an undefined amount of time required.
- Ability to work in environments with dust, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, indoor and outdoor weather conditions for an undefined amount of time required.
- Ability to bend, lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs. without assistance required.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments required.
- Ability to work days, evenings (including overnights), weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours required.
