About the role
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division's field crews. They supervise, coordinate, and oversee construction projects related to drainage, sidewalks, and trails, as well as maintenance activities such as road and drainage, mowing and landscaping, the solid waste program, debris, and emergency maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, coordinates, and monitors the daily activities of the Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division's field crews.
- Supervises, coordinates, and oversees construction projects related to drainage, sidewalks and trails, and special project requests from other departments.
- Supervises, coordinates, and oversees maintenance activities related to road and drainage, mowing and landscaping, the solid waste program, debris, emergency maintenance and special requests from other departments.
- Delegates work assignments to foreman and crew leaders and assigns equipment.
- Inspects work areas prior to beginning work, and ensures safety of work sites and practices.
- Inspects drainage construction projects to ensure compliance to project plans and specifications; reviews work performed.
- Maintains logs and records of construction, maintenance and repair work performed.
- Reviews and approves staff timesheets and hard copy or electronic work orders for daily activities.
- Interacts with citizens on problems or complaints related to operations activities.
- Performs personnel performance evaluations and deals with day to day personnel management problems/concerns.
- Interacts with management, surveyors, engineers, contractors, etc., in determining course of action and required manpower and materials for projects.
- Prepares various required safety and quality standards reports related to execution of projects.
- Prepares and develops specifications for bid requests for various projects.
- Responds after hours for Public Works' emergency response notifications; performs maintenance work if able, dispatches necessary personnel for more complex projects.
- Captures and coordinates with utility companies in completing locates and determining course of action for conflicts within work area.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school; a minimum of 5 years of experience in the maintenance trade fields specifically related to drainage and roadway construction right of way maintenance and 3 years of supervisory experience required.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class "A" Unrestricted Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Florida within six (6) months.
- Must possess or be able to obtain an Advanced Maintenance of Traffic Certification within six (6) months.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector Certification within six (6) months.
