About the role

The Operations Supervisor oversees individuals who bake and package high-quality bread and roll products while adhering to the Production Team's top commitments: Personal Safety and Food Safety. This role requires integrity, respect, and leadership through open dialogue and constructive feedback. The Operations Supervisor embraces proactive planning and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lives out and promotes Martin’s culture commitments: Integrity & Respect, Communication on a Unified Team, Extraordinary Quality & Customer Service, Proactive Thinking, and Ambassadorship for Martin’s, as well as Bakery Priorities: Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Productivity.
  • Sets team expectations and goals aligned with culture commitments and bakery priorities; holds team members accountable.
  • Manages team development, including coaching, performance reviews, training, and accountability.
  • Proactively engages in onboarding and training new hires, aligning with training program expectations.
  • Reviews production orders and plans personnel and materials to meet demand.
  • Ensures completion of operational and production records (safety, food safety, quality, productivity, timekeeping).
  • Develops and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Coordinates actions for substandard product in adherence to company processes.
  • Collaborates with cross-departmental teams to resolve production issues (e.g., machinery repairs, equipment cleaning).
  • Commits to personal learning and development in supervisory skills, emotional intelligence, policy adherence, and technical production skills.
  • Performs duties of supervised workers when needed.
  • Adheres to and enforces safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.
  • Reports safety, food safety, and quality issues to authorized personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises production employees in alignment with culture commitments, bakery priorities, company policies, and external laws.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work; trains employees and assesses performance.
  • Addresses employee complaints and resolves problems.
  • Coaches, counsels, and administers discipline as necessary.
  • Acts as hiring manager for team roles.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate’s Degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Experience in baking or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience operating forklift and pallet jack.
  • Ability to pass Food Safety HACCP training and competency test.
  • Warehouse Management System experience preferred.
  • Kronos timekeeping system experience preferred.
  • Travel up to 5%.

Skills

  • Prior bakery and/or manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to operate or learn production equipment.
  • Ability to cope with change and prioritize issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and present information in one-on-one or small group settings.
  • Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and handle standardized problem-solving scenarios.

Physical Demands

  • Standing for long periods.
  • Use of hands to handle or feel; reaching with hands and arms; talking, hearing, and smelling.
  • Walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds; occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision abilities required.

Schedule

Thursday–Monday, 9:00 PM – 6:00 AM.

Pay

Salary range: $78,000–$88,000 (depending on experience).
