About the role
The Operations Specialist oversees the technical execution of the daily live news shows by “calling” the broadcast and ensuring that all production elements are correct. They are responsible for the show’s overall pacing and “feel” and have significant input into if, how, and why something can or cannot be accomplished from a technical standpoint. They will direct a minimum of two (2) newscasts per week as part of their regular schedule.
Responsibilities
- Work with Newscast Producer to execute the show’s presentation goals.
- Code the newscast for automation as well as any newscast graphics required.
- Follow optimal workflows to the creative intent of our newscast look and feel.
- Ensure smooth running of cameras, microphone assignments, and set staging.
- Perform real-time, moment-to-moment, technical execution of live, breaking, and/or pre-recorded newscasts, cut-ins, and entertainment programming.
- Use control room automaton to coordinate the appropriate sequencing of video feeds, audio feeds, server playback, and graphic content playback.
- Clearly communicate cue-to-cue directives.
- Responsible for operation of Master Control automation playlists & related systems for both prerecorded and live content.
- Maintain all required program logs.
- Monitor and troubleshoot on-air issues for WISC-TV and TVW digital streams.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or Post High School Degree in Communications or a related field.
- Ability to stay calm, focused, productive, and diplomatic under tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with both co-workers and management.
- PREFERRED: Knowledge of other television control room production procedures and equipment, such as Ross automation systems, Chryron-Hego graphic systems, SAS audio board, Adobe Suite software, etc.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
