About the role
You are a strategic and detail-oriented risk and governance professional who thrives on driving compliance, strengthening controls, and improving business processes. You excel at partnering with stakeholders across all levels of the organization to identify risks, develop practical solutions, and ensure regulatory compliance. With strong analytical, research, and leadership skills, you confidently lead risk assessments, influence governance initiatives, and support the Credit Union's modernization efforts while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead formal risk assessments assigned to business areas, working with leadership, stakeholders, Compliance, and Enterprise Risk to gather information and document key controls.
- Lead new risk assessment development as required by internal and external auditors, Enterprise Risk, and/or regulatory requirements.
- Integrate governance, risk management, and compliance processes throughout Service Operations using Governance, Risk, and Compliance frameworks.
- Conduct research to create risk statements, gather data, and understand functionality in applicable business areas to prepare reports.
- Partner with various stakeholders under Service Operations to proactively self-identify opportunities for improvement.
- Elevate risk management to an enterprise-wide responsibility, ensuring accountability across all business functions.
- Act as a liaison with Internal/External Audit, Corporate Compliance, and Risk Management during audits/reviews.
- Collaborate with process owners to write comprehensive issue management responses and assist in open issue mitigation by gathering appropriate documentation.
- Collect and organize relevant documents to support issue resolution and regularly report on the status of open issues and mitigation efforts.
- Lead research and recommendations for new governing Corporate and Board policies/programs and business processes as required by Senior Management and internal/external auditors.
- Conduct regulation research and include applicable information in policies/programs.
- Coordinate with business areas to gather information on functionality as applicable.
- Coordinate the annual review of all applicable Service Operations policies and review edits to ensure compliance with processes and regulations.
- Provide advice on governance, risk, and compliance to business areas.
- Study current literature on research methodology and make recommendations for departmental improvements.
- Prepare informational reports for varying levels of the organization, including data such as velocity, heat mapping, geolocation fraud trends, and other relevant information.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to Credit Union compliance, including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws.
- Participate in projects and assist with training upon completion for all levels of staff and management.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with all levels of management, peers, subordinates, and external vendors to accomplish Credit Union strategic goals.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 7+ years of related experience with emphasis on risk and control, regulatory compliance, and governance required.
- 3+ years of prior quality assurance, issue management, gap mitigation, or project management experience, preferably in financial institutions required.
- Experience in related financial institution experience preferred.
