About the role

The Governance Analyst plays a crucial role in strengthening controls, improving processes, and supporting regulatory compliance within Service Operations. Reporting to the Supervisor - Operations Governance, this position involves participating in formal risk assessments, gathering information and data to document key controls, and assisting in open issue mitigation.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in formal risk assessments assigned to the business areas.
  • Work with the Senior Governance Analyst, leadership, and various stakeholders to gather information and data to document key controls.
  • Assist in new risk assessment development as required by internal and external auditors, Enterprise Risk, and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct research to create risk statements, gather data, and understand functionality in the applicable business areas to prepare reports.
  • Proactively self-identify opportunities for improvement and elevate risk management to an enterprise-wide responsibility.
  • Design and implement comprehensive programs including record retention, complaints management, and disclosure reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Use computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, word processing, and statistical applications to manipulate, analyze, and present data.
  • Support the Senior Governance Analyst by conducting regulation research and preparing informational reports for varying levels of the organization.
  • Provide advice in relation to governance, risk, and compliance to the business areas and study current literature on research methodology to make appropriate recommendations for departmental improvements.
  • Maintain an understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to Credit Union compliance, including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws.
  • Participate in projects, as needed, and assist with training as necessary with all levels of staff and management.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with all levels of management, peers, and subordinates, internal and externally with peers and vendors to accomplish Credit Union strategic goals.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Preferences

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of related experience with disciplines noted above, emphasizing risk and control, regulatory compliance, and governance
  • 3+ years of prior quality assurance/issue management/gap mitigation/project management experience, preferably in financial institutions
  • Experience in related financial institution experience strongly encouraged
