About the role
The Norfolk Police Department is seeking an Operations Officer II to support law enforcement and criminal justice functions. Essential functions include data entry, information retrieval, and various clerical support tasks.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and retrieve files.
- Answer and direct phone calls, assist with issues.
- Data entry and maintenance of various logs.
- Prepare reports, maintain databases, and complete paperwork.
- Pick up and deliver documents, process incoming mail.
- Drive a city vehicle to deliver and pick up documents.
- Walking from a vehicle to various buildings/offices to deliver and pick up documents.
- Lift and carry paper documents to and from various buildings/offices.
- Conduct criminal and civil processes by fingerprinting subjects, taking mug shot photos, processing felony and sex offender registrations, operating AFIS.
- Respond to record requests and perform record requests for officers.
- Process ID cards for officers and civilian employees.
- Perform background checks as directed.
- Research documents as requested and prepare various correspondence/reports.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Data entry experience.
- Experience in managing criminal records (VCIN/NCIC).
- Comfortable conducting criminal and civil processes by fingerprinting subjects, taking mug shot photos, processing felony and sex offender registrations, and operating AFIS.
- Comfortable hand delivering documents throughout the building.
- Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certification.
Qualifications
- Two years’ experience in general office work or at least one year of experience in the management of criminal records relating to processing VCIN/NCIC transactions at the municipal or state level.
- Education equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
Skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Data entry skills.
- Experience with criminal records management (VCIN/NCIC).
- Comfort with fingerprinting and AFIS operations.
- Ability to handle administrative tasks in a 24/7 environment.

Pay
The appropriate certification as an VCIN/NCIC operator must be obtained within six (6) months of employment and maintained continuously throughout the course of employment in this classification. The departmental hiring rate for this position is $47,262.29 annually.
Schedule
Rotating shift in a 24/7 environment (days/evening/midnights) including weekends and holidays. Available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs.
