Operations Manager/Shift Supervisor

About the role

Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is seeking an Operations Manager/Shift Supervisor to facilitate daily shelter operations at the Schwartz Assessment Shelter, a 24‑hour men’s shelter located on Wards Island, NY 10035. Clients are referred by the New York City Department of Homeless Services.

Principal Responsibilities

• Supervise delivery of program services including intake, bed assignments, case management services, distribution of client mail, lockers, meal cards, and medication.
• Ensure optimal customer service is provided to clients.
• Oversee recreation activities for residents.
• Maintain adequate staffing levels at all times.
• Coordinate with DHS Police Department to ensure daily security and safety of the facility.
• Supervise facility maintenance, cleaning staff, and fire safety.
• Manage community relations and communicate with relevant authorities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• At least one year of relevant experience in a similar capacity within a social services setting.
• Good interpersonal skills and basic computer knowledge.
• Security certification required.
• Fire Safety (F‑80) certification to be obtained within three months of hire.
