OPERATIONS MANAGER-HSOM
About the role
To ensure successful planning, management and analysis of clinical practice operations, academic program development, information systems, human resources and compliance, to optimize the department's operational activities.
To serve as the principle advisor to the Executive Administrator and the Vice Chair(s) for Clinical Affairs and Quality on all clinical administrative matters pertaining to the Department.
To partner with other senior members in the Department, in the Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM), in the Health Services Foundation and in the UAB Health System regarding all aspects of clinical and academic program development to ensure timely and fiscally responsible execution.
To oversee operations of the department including financial, planning and human resources (HR) responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Provides advice and assistance to management in the planning, implementation and evaluation of modifications to existing operations, systems and procedures in the assigned department.
- Serves as primary liaison between department and other internal groups to address operational concerns.
- Continually monitors services provided to department and identifies/leads activities related to areas for growth and improvement with existing services and potential new vendors.
- Affords assistance in preparation of department annual budgets and monitors actual department results to determine compliance with budget and forecasts potential problems.
- Affords assistance in coordination of al IT related issues.
- May interface with external institutions to establish grants and contracts.
- Coordinates interviewing applicants, hiring/placement of employees, evaluations of performance of assigned personnel, counseling, disciplining and providing recommendations for termination.
- Responsible for faculty onboarding and working with HR for staff hiring.
- Works with departmental faculty and management to coordinate annual performance reviews.
- Works with UAB Medicine HR in regards to discipline and position elimination.
- May provide consultation and guidance for satellite facilities.
- Assists with space allocation and required level of staffing.
- Works with management to ensure all clinical concerns are addressed.
- Ensures credentialing for satellite facilities.
- Reviews and updates in-service and procedure manual(s).
- Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Maintains safety program to meet regulatory compliance.
- Supervises assigned department staff.
- Provides guidance to department managers regarding all staffing, training, discipline and evaluation for staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field and seven (7) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
- PREFERRED: Degree in Business, Finance, HR, Project Management, Hospital Administration or similar fields.
- MBA or MSHA.
- Work experience in: Finance, Human Resources, Budgeting, Operations, Hospital Administration, Healthcare/Clinic Management, Office Manager
