About the role

The Operations Manager ensures throughput targets are achieved in a safe, timely, quality, cost efficient and productive manner. They manage production schedules to fulfill orders, are accountable for the achievement of area performance objectives, product quality and variable costs, and ensure employees are accurately trained, assigned specific duties, coached, disciplined, and rewarded. They optimize equipment availability, cycle times, and overall continual improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, establishes, and communicates performance standards for area of responsibility.
  • Controls the flow of product, materials and labor utilization in the business unit to maximize productivity and minimize cost while achieving safety, quality, inventory and throughput targets.
  • Reviews and plans for daily, weekly, and quarterly labor, equipment, tooling and supply requirements to achieve area throughput while meeting and exceeding productivity targets.
  • Develops area priorities as it relates to plant requirements and communicates daily with engineering, quality, production control, finance, human resources, production, and suppliers; measures performance against stated priorities.
  • Leads the team in developing and implementing effective systems for improving internal and external quality, cost improvements and on-time delivery to the customer requirements.
  • Effectively collaborates with manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and production leads to achieve scrap, cost and safety requirements.
  • Provides effective leadership and acts in a manner that maintains a positive and productive work environment with customers, clients, co-workers and area employees.
  • Analyzes variable labor costs daily, works with supervisors to determine required staffing levels and supports labor re-allocation across the plant as required.
  • Carry out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating and appraising individual performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Supports cross training to eliminate all skill gaps, resulting in a more skilled and adaptable workforce.
  • Insures the completion of required competency forms and certifications, as well as maintains an employee skill matrix.
  • Administers policies and procedures as required. Provides support to department employees as required.
  • Supports a zero injury culture by pro-actively complying with all environmental safe practices and regulations. Conducts EH&S self-inspection and safety huddles in areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. Degree
  • 5+ years Manufacturing experience (aerospace, forging, machining backgrounds preferred)
  • Supervisory experience leading teams of 100+ people; Performance management skills.
  • Analytical skills; Personal accountability; Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of organization, especially with direct employees.
  • Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and QAD; other productivity tools.
  • Quality focused & production driven.

Skills

  • Must be capable of working effectively with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Process improvement experience is desirable (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing).
  • Must possess excellent problem solving, organizational and verbal & written communication skills.
  • Solid, overall business acumen and a strong mindset for continuous improvement.
  • Attention to detail and an attitude of 100% compliance with all company and regulatory requirements.
  • Work requires verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • High energy level and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MRP).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Results oriented.

Benefits

For informational purposes only the range of pay for this role is $128,000 to $192,000US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only this role is eligible to participate in the Companys Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Companys bonus multiple based on the Companys performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees and their families are eligible to participate in the companys medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the companys 401k plan.
