Operations Manager

Old Dominion Brush Company LLC (ODB) is seeking an Operations Manager for the Manufacturing Administration department in Richmond, Virginia.

ODB has been manufacturing municipal products since 1910, specializing in street sweeper brushes and leaf and debris collection equipment for 115 years. With a 200,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and high-volume purchasing, ODB delivers high-quality products at competitive prices. Responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day manufacturing operations, including production management, scheduling, materials management, shipping/receiving, machine utilization, and quality standards.
• Maintain responsibility for manufacturing and shipping quality of whole goods and parts according to production schedules.
• Develop strategic plans to achieve productivity, efficiency, and cost-containment goals.
• Oversee plant capacity, material requirements planning, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
• Determine staffing levels and labor schedules based on workloads and product knowledge.
• Maintain operating schedules relative to production demands and deadlines.
• Coordinate with Marketing, Engineering, Production Planning, and Purchasing to align schedules, address product concerns, and manage supplier relationships.
• Improve manufacturing capabilities for new or revised product designs in collaboration with the Engineering Manager.
• Direct supervisors and manufacturing engineers to meet production goals and ensure inventory accuracy.
• Drive Lean initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Delegate, prioritize, and oversee projects for supervisors, including personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures.
• Complete and administer performance evaluations for direct reports.
• Maintain a safe work environment compliant with federal and state regulations.
• Select and implement quality plans for product designs based on specifications.
• Coordinate maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and facility security.
• Enforce safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
• Establish standards for clean and organized work areas.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities to staff.
• Collaborate with the President and HR Manager to resolve employee concerns.
• Work with the Purchasing Team to evaluate materials, resolve supply issues, and minimize production disruptions.
• Stay current on manufacturing tools, techniques, and industry trends to ensure best practices.
• Analyze operations results vs. budget/forecast and review discretionary spending requests.
• Improve internal communications and facilitate meetings related to production and performance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7–10 years of manufacturing/supervisory experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.

Skills

• Knowledge of production fabrication, welding, paint, mechanical assembly, warehouse, and related processes.
• Experience developing programs for productivity, cost improvements, and quality.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels, with customers, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality standards, and best practices.
• Experience applying Lean manufacturing techniques and inventory management knowledge.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and a commitment to building a safety culture.
• Experience with manufacturing methods for truck or vehicle-related parts.
• Proficiency in 3-D construction, design layouts, assembly drawings, and component part drawings.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
• Experience with design techniques for bending, welding, metal, and plastics.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in SolidWorks software.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
• Knowledge of engineering design standards, manufacturing capabilities, Bill of Materials, configurators, stress analysis, and material selection.

Working Conditions

• Environment varies between manufacturing floor and office settings.
• Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and walk throughout the plant.
• Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to work days, nights, overtime, and/or weekends as needed.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Pay

$170,000 to $183,600, commensurate with experience.
