About the role
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and strengthening the Nashville Banner's organizational operations, ensuring our people, systems, and processes are high-performing, sustainable, and built to scale. You'll work closely with leaders across the newsroom and development teams to improve workflows, support staff, manage organizational operations, and build the infrastructure needed for the Banner's continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day people operations, including recruiting coordination, onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration and employee records.
- Maintain, improve and in some cases create HR policies, documentation and internal resources, including the employee handbook and job descriptions.
- Support managers and staff on HR processes while helping foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing workplace.
- Carefully coordinate performance review cycles and help ensure compliance with employment policies and expectations.
- Support the development and management of the organization's annual budget in partnership with the Chief Development Officer and external accounting partners.
- Carefully coordinate day-to-day financial operations, including invoicing, expense management, bookkeeping support and financial reporting.
- Help strengthen operational systems that support fundraising, including Salesforce administration and revenue tracking.
- Design and improve the systems, workflows and processes that support the Banner's organizational operations as we grow.
- Manage organizational technology, software subscriptions, vendors and workplace operations, ensuring staff have the tools and support they need to succeed.
- Partner with leaders across the organization to implement operational improvements, solve problems and build systems that support long-term growth.

Preferred qualifications
- At least three years of experience in operations, human resources, nonprofit administration, business operations or a related role, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Experience managing organizational operations across multiple functions, including HR, finance, administration and internal systems.
- Experience working with and implementing operational platforms, business systems, accounting software or other organizational tools.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve organizational systems in a growing, fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational, systems-thinking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and build trusted relationships.
- Enthusiasm for the Nashville Banner's mission and a commitment to strengthening local journalism and civic life in Middle Tennessee.
