Summary
CHS South Central is seeking an Operations Manager in Sterling, ND to lead grain and agronomy operations. This role oversees inventory management, asset utilization, and ensures safety and compliance across both the fertilizer plant and grain elevator. Responsibilities
- Oversee grain and agronomy operations at the Sterling location, including the fertilizer plant and grain elevator, to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable performance.
- Manage day-to-day operations to provide customers with prompt, courteous, and effective service while meeting operational and divisional objectives.
- Lead, train, and support approximately six direct reports through clear work direction, performance feedback, and employee development.
- Oversee inventory management, product ordering, asset utilization, and operational readiness for grain and agronomy facilities.
- Manage fertilizer operations of approximately 20,000 tons annually, with the ability to support future growth and increased volume.
- Complete administrative responsibilities, including COUPA activity, inventory ordering, time-off approvals, and required operational documentation.
- Work alongside employees during peak seasons while responding to operational questions and customer needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain effective communication with employees, customers, and leadership to support alignment on priorities, service expectations, and business needs.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety and compliance culture across the fertilizer plant and grain elevator by following policies, identifying hazards, and correcting unsafe conditions.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while supporting grain and agronomy operations, customer service, and overall location performance.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Operations and/or Business Operations
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Previous Agribusiness/Location management or Grain Sales experience preferred
- Ability to motivate and lead team members
