Operations & Maintenance Technician II - Fleet

About the role

The Metropolitan’s Integrated Operations Planning & Support Services Group, Fleet Unit has an opening for an Operations & Maintenance Technician II (Fleet).

Responsibilities

• Aid in servicing, maintaining, and repairing a diverse fleet of automotive, light, and medium-duty vehicles, including gas, diesel, and hybrid cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks.
• Gain exposure to and assist with heavy construction equipment, such as graders, bulldozers, tractor-trailers, tankers, and cranes.
• Support maintenance and repair efforts for mobile and stationary emergency generating equipment and systems.
• Learn to use the Maintenance Management System (MMS) database to track work orders, manage inventory, monitor fuel, and maintain service records and regulatory entries.
• Participate in maintaining and improving fleet quality to support critical water and power operations, including system shutdowns.

Requirements

• High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate in addition to a minimum of 2 years recent experience in an automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance position.
• OR High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate and attainment of skills through a recognized automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance trade training program and/or applicable related experience within a industrial environment.
• Practical application of techniques and practices specific to the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive light/medium or heavy equipment including pumps, compressors.
• Skills necessary include mechanical, hydraulics, electrical, and computer/electronics, and handheld diagnostic systems.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A, B, and/or C with appropriate commercial license endorsements.
• Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.
• May be able to obtain valid California Class A Driver’s license and medical certification with appropriate commercial license endorsements (Tanker & Hazmat, air brake and trailer endorsements).
• Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in freon installation, automotive air conditioning and emissions (including CFC 12, Refrigerant recycling and service procedures).
• Emission testing certification from the State of California.
• ASE certification.
• Air brake inspections certification.
