FLEET TECHNICIAN II
Responsibilities
- Perform welding and fabrication with good skills
- Knowledge of hydraulic theory and performs related repair (light and medium)
- Performs efficient diagnostics (light and medium, including diesel)
- Does complete system repair (light and medium, including diesel)
- Process paperwork and work orders in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintain work area, tools and equipment, including service truck, in a neat and clean manner
- Complete air-conditioning repair (light and medium)
- Complete small engine repair
- Make service calls and may tow vehicles or equipment
- Participate in training
- Complete continued education courses and become certified in areas consistent with expertise
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Requirements
- Enough education to read & write effectively for this position
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but not required
- Two years or more experience in maintenance and repair of a wide variety of motorized equipment, welding in automotive or construction field
- Technical training preferred
- Valid Texas Class B Driver’s license within (1) year of hire
- ASE A1 Engine repair certification and ASE A6 Electrical Systems certification within (1) year of hire date or as budget allows
Qualifications
General knowledge of principles, materials and tools associated with the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and the ability to use same in a safe manner
Skill to diagnose equipment defects and ability to use hand tools and power equipment to make repairs or alterations
Ability to read and write in order to follow instructions and complete necessary reports on repairs
Ability to transport self from site to site
Ability to drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and from various worksites
Employee will work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing, and lifting in order to maintain or repair the City’s fleet
Employee will work with chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards
Employee will work in confined spaces, trenches and in streets where extreme hazards exist while performing duties
Employee is frequently required to perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally material weighing up to 100 pounds
Employee will be exposed to poor lighting, dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water and mud
Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven, and sloped surfaces
The machinery operated can be dangerous unless operated in a safe manner
