About the role

The Operations and Maintenance Technician oversees the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment at St. Charles, a 745 MW, 2x1 combined cycle facility. The facility features GE 7FA.05 gas turbines and a D11 steam turbine, utilizing reclaimed water for cooling and supplying power to the PJM market via PEPCO.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment
  • Properly operate Control Room, combustion turbines and plant auxiliary equipment during normal and emergency operation
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems
  • Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data
  • Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures
  • Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings
  • Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others
  • Apply knowledge of gas power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel
  • Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties
  • Take, record, and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters
  • Train operators in their qualifications
  • Ensure shift operations and maintenance PMs are performed
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation
  • Meet physical requirements of the job, performing tasks while standing, walking, climbing, and squatting
  • Perform duties requiring working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience in power plants or equivalent military experience
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Competent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software, and the ability to read technical manuals and drawings
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Ability to lift 40–75 lbs. and work in physically demanding conditions
