Operations Intern
About the role
Normal NOW is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing gender equality, civic engagement, education, and community empowerment. We support women and families through advocacy, community programming, voter engagement, and leadership development.
Responsibilities
- Assist with member recruitment, onboarding, and retention activities.
- Cover communications with volunteers and community supporters.
- Coordinate outreach efforts with local organizations, sponsors, and community partners.
- Support voter registration, advocacy, and civic engagement initiatives.
- Help increase awareness of Normal NOW programs, events, and mission.
- Aid in planning and executing community events, educational programs, and fundraising activities.
- Cover logistics, registrations, materials, and volunteer schedules.
- Support sponsor, vendor, and participant communication.
- Attend and assist with event setup, execution, and post-event evaluation.
- Maintain membership databases and organizational records.
- Aid in tracking sponsorships, donations, and community partnerships.
- Help organize procedures, documents, reports, and project materials.
- Support special projects and operational initiatives as assigned.
- Participate in committee meetings and organizational planning efforts as appropriate.
- Draft and schedule social media content.
- Aid in newsletters, email communications, and promotional materials.
- Create content that highlights organizational impact, programs, and events.
- Help collect engagement data and support reporting efforts.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree program at an accredited college or university.
- Strong interest in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, civic participation, women's advocacy, or public service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with volunteers, board members, and community partners.
- Positive attitude, initiative, professionalism, and willingness to learn.

- Students pursuing degrees in: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Learning Opportunities
Interns will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management and operations, community engagement and outreach, event planning and coordination, volunteer management, advocacy and civic engagement, public relations and communications, and leadership development. They will also participate in board governance and nonprofit administration.
Academic Credit Eligibility
Normal NOW welcomes students seeking internship experiences for academic credit. Students should work with their academic advisor, internship coordinator, or career services office to determine credit eligibility through their institution. Normal NOW is willing to complete internship agreements and learning plans, provide supervision, mentorship, and regular performance feedback, verify internship hours and responsibilities, participate in evaluations and documentation required by academic programs, and collaborate with faculty advisors to support student learning objectives.
