Operations Engineer

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO) is the managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

• Apply in-depth knowledge of Operations and an understanding of the Startup process per DOE order 425.1D.
• Assist Readiness Assessments, Contractor Readiness Assessment (CRA), and Contractor Operational Readiness Review (CORR) teams.
• Coordinate plant readiness for startup actions.
• Complete activities during Readiness Reviews and implementations, including scheduling activities, equipment walk downs, initial procedure and training development, and coordination of response to Readiness Review findings and observations.
• Represent the group in organizational and schedule meetings by demonstrating adequate plant knowledge, startup impacts, operations impacts, and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) knowledge.
• Perform underground walk downs as required by project needs.

The Operations Readiness Engineer will report to the Operations Readiness Manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of experience, or
• Associate’s degree with six (6) years of experience, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of experience.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
• Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns may be subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Qualifications

• Preference given to candidates with previous operations and operations startup experience.
• Demonstrated experience with achieving authorization to operate nuclear operations is desired.
• In-depth knowledge of DOE Order 425.1D and DOE standard 3006-2010 is preferred.
• Experience working with Documented Safety Analyses and in-depth knowledge of the application of Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs).
• Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Pay

$82,382 to $145,184 per year. The specific salary offered will be influenced by the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
