Operations Data Analyst, Expert

Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The team is responsible for the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of transmission lines. Coworkers actively engage in Lean Methodology, using visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems.

About the role

The Operations Data Analyst extracts operations data for analysis, leadership support, and responses to ad hoc data requests. The incumbent maintains operations tools and databases, ensuring they are kept up-to-date using data from various PG&E systems. They develop, maintain, and enhance operational metric database tools for broader analytics teams, identifying and solving gaps in data requirements and access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.

This position is hybrid, requiring work from a remote office and an assigned work location within the PG&E Service Territory, with an in-office presence 1-2 days a week in Dublin.

Responsibilities

• Manages complex data analysis projects with limited supervision, ensuring completion within budget and on-time.
• Designs data analysis to achieve business objectives, processes data, analyzes findings, and tailors communications to specific audiences.
• Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery, ensuring accurate data manipulation and cleansing.
• Manages complex data extracts and list pulls, ensuring data accuracy.
• Extracts and transfers data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
• Analyzes data using advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, statistics, trends, and profiles.
• Applies broad expertise in data processing and analysis to address diverse issues.
• Provides innovative solutions and recommendations to enhance databases with new data sources and improved processes.
• Develops comprehensive reports and communicates clear, concise, and actionable data analyses for clients.
• Acts as team lead, providing direction to less experienced employees.
• Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 6 years of job-related experience.

Skills

• Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA).
• Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects.
• Experience with Python and Python libraries (Pandas, Statsmodels).
• Strong knowledge of base-SAS and programming languages such as Visual Basic, Perl, or C.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Influence and advanced project management skills to lead cross-functional teams.

Desired: Master’s Degree or equivalent experience, familiarity with utility operations.

Pay

PG&E is providing the salary range for this position based on the locality of the job. The actual salary will depend on factors such as skills, education, licenses, certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. The range is as follows:

• Bay Area: $126,000 – $200,000
• California (outside Bay Area): $120,000 – $190,000

This position is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
