Warren County Water District is hiring for one full-time Operations Center employee. Applicants will be considered for placement in either the Operations Center Technician or Operations Center Specialist classification, determined during the selection process based on education, professional credentials, licensure, experience, and demonstrated knowledge of water and wastewater operations.

About the Role

This position supports the efficient coordination of operations and maintenance for water and wastewater systems. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate documentation, responding to customer inquiries, and ensuring high productivity and morale.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and responds to customer inquiries, complaints, or concerns regarding system operational conditions.
  • Processes utility locate requests from the KY811 Before You Dig system.
  • Monitors SCADA system and dispatches personnel to investigate anomalies.
  • Assists in coordinating unscheduled and emergency work with supervisors and outside personnel.
  • Acts as a communication liaison with field personnel during emergencies.
  • Uses Cityworks CMMS and other systems to ensure efficient dispatch and completion of service requests/work orders.
  • Prepares and submits required reports.
  • Keeps the general manager informed of internal or external issues, personnel problems, or customer concerns.
  • Familiarizes with Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting on hazardous and toxic chemicals.
  • Works according to safety standards and policies; reports all incidents to supervisors.
  • Complies with local traffic laws and safe practices while operating company vehicles.
  • Obtains First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.

Specialist-specific responsibilities:

  • Remotely controls pump stations, lift stations, and other facilities as scheduled or requested.
  • Assists in monitoring water quality testing data and ensures regulatory reporting deadlines are met.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.
  • Ability to work a forty-hour week plus additional time during emergencies.
  • Some travel in and around the system may be required; willingness to attend work-related courses.
  • Lifting up to 15 pounds may be required.

Specialist-specific requirements:

  • Class III Distribution and/or Collection Operators License desirable.
  • Two years’ experience in water/wastewater system operation and maintenance desirable.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of water/wastewater systems (Specialist: deeper operational knowledge required).
  • Familiarity with computer systems including SCADA, Asset Management, CMMS, GIS, AVL, and Microsoft 365.
  • Excellent organizational and triage skills; ability to prioritize corrective actions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive employee and customer information.
  • Ability to work under stress and remain calm during rapidly changing circumstances.

Work Environment

Reports to the Operations Center Supervisor. Some outside work may be required, including training and coordination. Must be available for overtime during emergencies.
