Operations Buyer
Overview
We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an Operations Buyer within our Supply Chain – Procurement team to support our Work Furniture business. Our Furniture Components business designs, manufactures, and distributes components and finished products enhancing comfort, motion, and style in upholstered furniture.
About the Role
As an Operations Buyer, you will drive purchasing decisions impacting production efficiency and cost savings. You will ensure inventory accuracy, optimize supplier relationships, and align procurement with operational goals. You will also identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Initiate purchases of materials and inventory to support production needs
- Manage inventory levels to meet service targets and optimize turns
- Build and maintain supplier relationships; negotiate terms and resolve disputes
- Analyze vendor performance and recommend purchasing strategies
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous improvement
- Monitor raw material pricing trends to inform negotiations
- Support new product development with supplier insights and cost analysis
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, IT, and Customer Service teams
- Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and trade regulations
- Maintain accurate SKU data in ERP systems (Syteline, Microsoft Office Suite)
- Use ERP/MRP data to forecast and plan future order quantities
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in procurement or operations buying
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Qualifications
- Experience with Syteline ERP
- Familiarity with supplier scoring and performance metrics
- Exposure to cross-functional collaboration in a manufacturing environment
