Brief Description The Immigrant Defenders Law Center (“ImmDef”) is a next-generation, social justice law firm that provides high-quality representation and legal services to immigrants in Southern California. Our staff is comprised of advocates and activists from the immigrant rights community who collectively have decades of experience fighting for the rights of immigrants in Southern California and beyond. Our organization was founded with the belief that no immigrant should be forced to go into court alone, and we see our universal representation programs as a first step towards that goal. Learn more about us at www.immdef.org. ImmDef is now hiring additional legal and administrative staff. ImmDef seeks a full-time Operations Assistant (OA) to support the organization’s growth. As a member of ImmDef’s administrative team, the OA will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across multiple projects to support and advance our mission-driven organization. This position is located in ImmDef's downtown Los Angeles office. However, candidates must be willing to travel to ImmDef's other Southern California offices as needed. This job posting may be used to recruit candidates based out of our Riverside office as well. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Monitor inventory of supplies and restock office and breakrooms supplies, as needed. Assist in the new hire onboarding process: prepare workspaces, provide office keys, create badges for new/existing staff, and respond to staff inquiries on an ongoing basis. Ensure that staff Operations ticket requests are resolved in a timely manner. Maintain common areas such as breakroom, meeting spaces, and supply rooms. Provide backup support with basic IT Maintenance tasks including resolving issues with phones, printers, and network, as needed. Assist with coordination and setup for internal meetings, special events, and training series throughout the year. Support in training new and existing staff on safety and emergency procedures; perform routine and preventive maintenance and safety tasks that promote a clean, functional and safe working environment. Assist with inventory of branded merchandise, handle distribution to staff and online sales, and place orders with vendors, as needed. Work collaboratively with all members of the organization’s administrative team and assist in the enforcement of policies and procedures across the organization. Other duties as assigned by ImmDef’s leadership team. Requirements High School Diploma or GED Preferred minimum of one year of direct experience in facilities maintenance or related field. Ability to perform basic repair, installation, maintenance, and cleaning tasks. Ability to lift heavy equipment, packages, and products that weigh up to and exceed 50 lbs. Proactive and flexible to changing priorities and initiatives. Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks with close attention to detail. Proactive qualities, a strong willingness to learn, and the ability to take initiative. Proficient in technology, especially Microsoft Office applications. Summary This position is included in the ImmDef employee union bargaining unit. Base compensation is $23.00 to $28.75 per hour, depending on experience. Schedule: ImmDef’s standard work schedule is 35 hours per week, or 70 hours per pay period. Operations Assistants are generally required to work on-site Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, but schedules are subject to change to meet program needs. We cover 100% of premiums for our base dental and vision plans for our staff members and 75% of base plan dental and vision premiums for their dependents. ImmDef also covers 89% of the base plan medical premiums for our staff and 69% of the base plan medical premiums for their dependents. FSA and Dependent Care FSA: ImmDef offers FSA plans to help offset the costs of eligible health care expenses for you, your spouse, and your eligible dependents using pre-tax dollars We also offer Dependent Care FSA to pay for eligible dependent care services, such as preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult daycare. Eligible for Parental Leave which includes six (6) weeks of ImmDef paid leave, after 1 year of employment. 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan & Employer Matching: ImmDef staff are eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plans immediately upon hire, contributing pre-tax dollars towards their retirement goals After six months on staff, ImmDef will match 100% of contributions up to 4% of the employee’s salary Public Service Loan Forgiveness: As a 501(c)3, full-time ImmDef staff with qualifying student loans are eligible for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Parking and Public Transportation Stipends: Staff members assigned to an office without free on-site parking are eligible to receive a parking stipend of up to $130 per month in actual accrued parking or transportation costs.
