Position Summary
The Operations Apprentice is responsible for assisting experienced operators in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment facility. This position requires working on a rotating shift.
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the treatment and disposal of wastewater and biosolids
- Understanding and comprehension of applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions to be exercised in the treatment of wastewater and biosolids
- Ability to learn and retain technical information
- Mechanical and/or problem-solving aptitude
- Computer literacy
- Ability to read, write, communicate, and understand English sufficiently to perform the functions of the position
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written directions
Experience
- Internal applicants: Minimum of one year (1) experience
- External applicants: Minimum of three (3) years of related experience, preferably in wastewater treatment
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate
- Satisfactory completion of both the Introduction to Wastewater course and Advanced Wastewater course is required
- Completion of Advanced Wastewater Collections course is preferred
License and Certifications
- A valid New Jersey driver's license is preferred but not required
- Must obtain a S1 license within 2 years or must be actively pursuing a S1 license (actively pursuing consists of taking the associated State license exam at least 2 times per year until the license is obtained)
Physical Demands
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others are maintained
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy objects
- Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), in compliance with PVSC's Facial Hair Grooming Policy
Working Conditions
- Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors
- Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into and work in Confined Spaces while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Pay
The expected base pay range is $59,884 to $91,221. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
