About the Role

The Operations and Program Manager will be a member of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) Research Center and Institutes team, working primarily in support of the Ethics Institute. In this role, they will work closely with Ethics Institute leadership on operations, as well as with faculty leads on project implementation.

The Ethics Institute is an interdisciplinary unit with a focus on research and education innovation in applied ethics, including AI and data ethics, environmental ethics, social and economic justice, religion and ethics, research ethics, and bioethics. The Operations and Program Manager will help connect Institute programs, projects, and events with partners throughout Northeastern’s global network of campuses, as well as work with student groups and programs supported by the Institute.

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) combines Northeastern University’s signature approach to experiential learning with liberal arts education, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement, both locally and globally.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Institute operations and project implementation, including scheduling projects and programs, maintaining records, organizing meetings, assisting with report preparation, and providing logistical support.
  • Manages the budget for the Institute and individual programs, projects, and events, including tracking expenses, reconciling budgets, ensuring timely payments, and providing financial reporting to funders and the university.
  • Assists with personnel matters, including hiring project personnel, arranging for visiting researchers, ensuring timely payments, and supporting coop and work-study programs.
  • Supports development activities, including budget preparation and administrative support for grant proposals, fundraising, and fee-for-service contracts.
  • Coordinates with budget, research finance, and marketing teams to align budgets, projects, and communications strategies.
  • Assists with annual report preparation and communications for Institute programs and projects.
  • Provides monthly reports to the Director of Research Development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of administrative and project management experience, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Experience working with budgets is required; experience organizing and running events is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, vendors, and administrative contacts.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple competing demands.

Pay

Compensation Grade/Pay Type: 107S

Expected hiring range: $53,615.00 - $75,728.75. The starting salary will depend on education, experience, location, knowledge, expertise, and skills, as well as a comparison to similarly-situated employees in the role.
