Operations and Monitoring Engineer
About the role
A Power Diagnostics® Services Monitoring Engineer reviews daily results from our monitoring infrastructure to proactively investigate and diagnose issues that could impact operations for assigned Gas Turbine (GT), Steam Turbine (ST), and Generator units. The role involves communicating recommendations to customers with engineering support and providing technical assistance for operational inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Monitor power plant operating data to detect operational and hardware issues, providing corrective actions to minimize impact.
- Document and report observations to customers, offering recommendations to address detected findings.
- Support customers for on-demand operational issues.
- Propose diagnostics rules to improve automatic abnormal operations alerts.
- Support the development of new monitoring software tools.
- Collaborate closely with service and engineering organizations for scheduled and forced outages.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related advanced degree (where required), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree may substitute for experience where applicable.
- 1+ years of successful experience in power generation or a related industry.
- Knowledge and experience with the operation of Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, and Generators in power generation applications.
- Ability to read, follow, and understand instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), control logic, and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of interpreting Python or similar code for time series data analysis.
- Excellent analytic and troubleshooting capabilities with hands-on problem-solving experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with frequent communication expected with external customers.
- Must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
