Operational Buyer

About the role
The Operational Buyer will ensure maximum procurement leverage through consolidation of an entity and region, and demand. This position will assume a leadership role in developing site category strategies that align with the Company and Business Unit's overall procurement strategy. This role is located in Louisville, KY and is fully on-site, with occasional travel to other locations (10% travel).
Responsibilities
- Analyze requirement requests from demand sources and clarify queries directly with responsible internal owners; prepare suitable quoting or ordering documents.
- Identify new potential suppliers in consultation with the Strategic Buyer and lead local strategic supplier initiatives.
- Oversee the quotation process by monitoring quotation returns and evaluate quotations commercially and, if necessary, technically.
- Independently analyze and negotiate prices, payment conditions, or other general conditions for ordering with suppliers.
- Partner with the requirement owner to identify the most suitable supplier based on cost, quality, delivery, and service on order initiation.
- Manage the entire ordering process, from purchase requisition by the demand side to resolution of invoice discrepancies.
- Prepare data for negotiations by Leadership and Strategic Buyers on a National Level.
- Identify and resolve moderate issues and problems on assigned contracts and purchase orders.
- Assume special tasks on a case-by-case basis, such as minor enhancements in the ERP system of the Procurement department or other assigned tasks.
Requirements
- B.S. Degree in Business or a technical-related discipline or equivalent work experience.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in procurement, indirect materials, supplier relations, manufacturing environments, stakeholder engagement, and/or use of E-Catalogs.
- Knowledge of the products procured and the supplier base, as well as the processes.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, SAP, and related systems.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing throughout the organization and with suppliers.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Travel approximately 10% of the time.
