Operating Room Technician

About the role

Under general direction, observe and practice sterile technique, maintain asepsis, and assist the surgeon as needed. Actively participate in patient care and safety. Utilize OR supplies conservatively and operate as a team member of the OR staff.

Responsibilities

• Follow Infection Control policies and procedures, demonstrating expertise in surgical scrub technique.
• Adhere to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
• Assist the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments during procedures.
• Maintain an organized operative field and keep accurate counts of sponges, tapes, needles, dissectors, and instruments.
• Prepare for cases by assembling supplies and equipment, and care for instruments after each case.
• Provide a safe surgical environment, identifying potential hazards.
• Utilize experienced OR staff as a resource and act as a resource for new OR personnel.
• Assist in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the surgeon's direction.
• Handle and identify specimens per policy.
• Expedite effective and efficient OR turnover between cases.
• Take rotating call duty.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - NBSTSA certification required.
• BLS certification required.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous Operating Room experience.
• Previous Surgical Technologist experience.

Schedule

3 x 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week. Days may vary based on unit needs. On-call obligation approximately every 5th-6th weekend, from 11 PM Friday to 11 PM Sunday.
