Role Summary
Provides intra-operative assistance to the surgical team, collaborating with surgeons and healthcare professionals during various surgical procedures. Responsibilities include pre-operative assessments, intra-operative technical support such as tissue handling, suturing, and providing hemostasis, as well as post-operative patient evaluation. Acts as a regional on-call RNFA for elective, urgent, and emergent surgeries, ensuring adherence to standards and protocols.
Key Duties
- Perform pre-operative assessments and collaborate on care plans.
- Assist during surgery by handling instruments, managing tissue, and suturing as directed.
- Support patient preparation, positioning, and sterile setup.
- Assist with instrumentation, equipment, and post-operative dressings.
- Ensure sterile techniques and maintain a safe surgical environment.
- Participate in patient transport, education, and room turnover activities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum two years of peri-operative scrubbing and circulating experience or one year as an RNFA.
- Completion of an AORN-recognized RNFA program and certification.
- Valid RN license and Nurse Operating Room Certification.
- Basic Life Support certification; ACLS preferred.
- Ability to work within scope of practice, demonstrate clinical skills, and communicate effectively.
Additional Requirements
- Maintain RN and CNOR licensure with ongoing education.
- Meet all RNFA qualification standards per AORN guidelines.
