About the role
Banner Desert Medical Center/Banner Children’s at Desert has 24 Operating Rooms, including 3 trauma rooms, 6 pediatric rooms, 1 cysto suite, 4 minimally invasive and 3 robotic rooms. The facility offers a full range of surgical specialties, including Peds Cardiovascular and Adult and Peds Trauma, Urology, Orthopedics, General, Gynecology, Neurology, EENT, Plastics and Robotics.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient safety by ensuring safe functioning of Operating Room equipment.
- Maintain and oversee the perioperative equipment management program for the Operating room.
- Initiate the coordination of equipment evaluations and staff education as it pertains to new and existing equipment.
- Coordinate timely maintenance of the physical facility with Plant Services.
- Serve as a first-line resource to physicians and staff for equipment troubleshooting in all department specialties.
- Balance, exchange lenses, and function as part of the OR patient care team for cell saver, laser, image guided equipment, video, and microscope.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of specialized equipment through certifications.
- Communicate the status of equipment within the department to management, including physicians and staff members, on a weekly basis.
- Perform safety checks on all equipment prior to patient use.
- Avoid unsafe electrical load distribution during surgical procedures to ensure safe patient care.
- Determine continuing education needs related to new equipment or procedures for all department staff and assist the nursing educator in meeting these educational needs.
- Oversee the safe keeping of all surgical equipment to ensure physical security against loss.
- Facilitate efficient OR room turnover by anticipating equipment needs.
Requirements
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Experience typically acquired with 1 year of perioperative or procedural services, biomedical, or comparable experience, which includes knowledge of related equipment and supplies. Effective organizational, communication, and human relations skills are necessary as the incumbent will be coordinating several projects simultaneously and working closely with department managers and all levels of staff and subordinates. Requires strong communications skills; time management, human relations, and organizational skills.

Pay
Shift: Days On Call: Yes, weekend and holiday rotations required. Enjoy an 18%-night shift differential and a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential when applicable.
