Overview

Sentara is hiring an Operating Room Attendant at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk, Virginia. Shift: Weekend Days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 7a-7p).

About the Role

The Operating Room (OR) Attendant supports professional staff in caring for the surgical patient. This support includes transporting patients from inpatient/emergency room/ICU departments to the pre-op holding area, cleaning operating room suites between procedures, supporting anesthesia staff, preparing the operating room suite, and assisting with patient positioning.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients from inpatient/emergency room/ICU departments to the pre-op holding area
• Clean operating room suites between procedures
• Ensure adequate stocking of anesthesia supplies in medication carts, clean anesthesia machines, and transport anesthesia machines and carts
• Transport specimens and blood products to and from the lab
• Ensure proper stocking of formalin containers used for specimen handling and transport
• Assist in the positioning of surgical patients with the guidance of professional OR staff
• Prepare the operating room suite by opening sterile supplies onto the sterile field and ensuring proper equipment availability

Requirements

• HSD/GED degree required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
• Prior Environmental Services or operating room experience preferred

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays
