Operating Room Attendant

Responsibilities

• Transports patients, specimens, blood, and blood products between clinical areas.
• Aid with positioning and holding limbs for surgical site prep.
• Completes pre-op skin prep as outlined in physician orders.
• Obtains case needs for each operating room by positioning equipment, aids, and supplies.
• Aids with all aspects of room set up and cleaning.
• Performs delegated duties as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Aids with other patient care activities as assigned by circulator.
• Maintains safe environment for patient care by effectively completing in between case cleaning for Operating Room.
• Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning agents and their intended use.
• Cleans and prepares operating room in between cases.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
• Ensures surgical department/hallways and scrub sinks are clean and free of clutter or debris.
• Stocks assigned supplies and equipment as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant course.
• Experience working in a surgical setting.

Qualifications

• Physically demanding; includes handling and lifting patients.
• Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
• Working irregular hours including call hours.

Skills

• Knowledge of cleaning agents and their intended use.
• Ability to perform delegated duties as a member of the surgical team.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Pay

Exempt from overtime.

Full Time, Standard Hours Per Week: 40.00, Onsite, Day Work Schedule.
