Operating Room Assistant (ORA)-2

Under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel, the Operating Room Assistant assists in providing direct patient care and tasks required for daily unit functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing direct patient care in the operating room.
• Perform tasks required for daily unit functions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency (GED).
• At least six months of experience working in a hospital setting.
• Completion of a recognized allied health course or six months of patient care experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• At least 1 year of work experience in a .6 FTE Operating Room Assistant position at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care work experience in a healthcare facility.
• Alternatively, a college degree, active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution, or active enrollment in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution.
• Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant certification, or equivalent training.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the first two weeks of hire, maintained thereafter.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
• May require working irregular hours, rotating shifts, and weekends.
