Operating Room Assistant
About the Role
As an Operating Room Assistant at Novant Health’s Matthews Medical Center, you’ll be trusted to support the needs of the surgical team to ensure the patient and the rooms are ready for surgery. You will assist with safe patient handling, preparation, and maintenance of the surgical environment. From routine surgeries to complex cases, your support will help drive safe, compassionate care where it matters most. This PRN role is ideal for experienced operating room assistants, looking to work within a high-performing, collaborative team.

Responsibilities
- Review assignment with the nurse to receive direction for priority of work according to patient needs
- Assist with turnover of the operating room in a timely, efficient manner
- Gather supplies, instruments, and equipment pertinent to the scheduled procedure
- Restock operating rooms, solutions, and warmers
- Assist with the transportation, transfer, preparation, and positioning of patients
- Perform pre-operative clip preps
- Secure patient in proper position for administration of regional anesthetics and surgical prep
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, required
- Experience: One year experience, required
Qualifications
- Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing
- Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills
