Responsibilities
- Consistently cleans OR areas according to established OR Policy and Procedures.
- Cleans and prepares OR Rooms between procedures, after terminal cleaning and total cleaning.
- Restocks supplies.
- Consistently removes scrubs, used supplies and extra equipment at the end of the day.
- Maintains hallway free for fire and safety precautions.
- Keeps boxes off of the floor and out of the OR restricted areas.
- Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment at all times.
- Regularly assists with the OR.
- Transports patients according to proper techniques of body mechanics to protect patient and personal safety.
- Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of patient needs for comfort and safety.
- Follows through accurately to provide patients with good nursing care.
- Collects, labels, and transports specimens to the proper area at the appropriate time.
- Always checks labels, type of specimen collected, including patient name and gets signatures.
- Maintains scrub sinks, work sinks, restocks masks, brushes and soap containers.
- Cleans scrub sinks.
- Removes dirty brushes.
- Maintains the OR lounge.
- Empties garbage, takes trays back to kitchen.
- Maintains all OR work area and organizes OR scrubs and laundry.
- Cleans and makes stretchers and beds utilizing universal precautions.
- Places special equipment or positioning devices on beds.
- Stocks and cleans work cart for the day and after hours.
- Maintains warming cabinets stocked with linen.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Stocks warmer with water and saline.
- Routinely damp dust all furniture, carts in hallway, 9X-ray equipment, arthroscopic equipment.
- Consistently is available and able to assist for patient positioning and transfer.
- Assists in positioning patient for the type of surgery being performed.
- Maintains patient safety by applying the principles of body alignment.
- Correctly identifies patient by name, checks patient name band for correct identification, assures proper name and that band is secure on patient's wrist.
- Regularly provides patients with clean linen and makes or straightens beds.
- Assists and supports all members of the health care team as needed in the performance of patient care and safety.
- Orders supplies when necessary from materials, receives items delivered and put in proper location.
- Disposes of needle buckets utilizing universal precautions - temperature and humidity logs, eye wash stations.
Qualifications
- Read and speak conversational English.
- High school diploma and on-the-job training.
- Minimum Experience: six months
- Desired Working Conditions: Manual: Little or no manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity Occupational: Significant occupational risk Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
