Operating Room Assistant

Scheduling Details

Shift is mid-day or evening shift. Either 4 - 10 hour shifts or 5 - 8 hour shifts.

About the Role

Aids in transporting patients to the OR holding area, assists with lifting, positioning, and/or transferring patients as indicated. Works closely with the Anesthesiologist and RN to determine equipment, setup, and supply requirements before a procedure begins. Processes post-surgery case-carts, including disposing of sharps, emptying suction canisters, distributing unused supplies, and sending carts to Central Processing. Sets up Fluid Warmer, Invasive Lines, and sterile supplies for Anesthesia procedures as needed. Changes anesthesia filter, gas cylinders, and canisters and checks/restocks anesthesia machines between cases and at the end of the scheduled cases. Assists in opening sterile supplies under the supervision of a RN. Assists with timely room turnover, including cleaning, removing trash, and linen. Transports blood products and specimens to and from the blood bank to the OR and lab/pathology. Retrieves medication under the direction of a Licensed Independent Practitioner. Maintains traffic patterns and adheres to sanitation policies and procedures for Surgical and Anesthesia instruments and equipment. Reviews surgery schedule daily to anticipate anesthesia needs for equipment in OR and LD. Assists under direction of MDA in managing airway maintenance. Collaborates with the RN and assists with documenting the use of equipment and supply consumption for accurate charging and inventory management. Connects OR electrical equipment prior to surgical procedures and disconnects at completion of cases. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards. Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need. May be required to be on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current BLS certification or completion within three months of employment is required.

Qualifications

• Prior experience or education in a health-related field or public service is preferred.

Skills

Ability to complete call and weekend shift requirements, as well as providing for emergency staffing according to policy in a fair and equitable manner. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including Microsoft Word, as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position (All Intermountain jobs).

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. $19.29 - $23.92
