About the role
You will perform operating and maintenance duties in support of the mechanical utility systems throughout the Airport facilities and other Port of Seattle properties. You will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, refrigeration systems, diesel generators, hydraulic systems, HVAC, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), domestic water, PC Air, and other tasks related to the mechanical systems throughout Port of Seattle facilities.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, refrigeration systems, diesel generators, hydraulic systems, HVAC, Direct Digital Controls (DDC).
- Perform or assist with air handler and variable air volume box preventive maintenance including controlling fans and dampers via DDC.
- Be responsible for preventative and corrective work to ensure proper equipment operation and reliability.
Requirements
- Experienced: Five (5) years of journey level experience in a multifaceted maintenance environment.
- Educated: High School Diploma or equivalent, and possess: City of Seattle Grade 3 or above Steam Engineer License, City of Seattle Refrigeration Operator or Journeyman Mechanic Grade A or C License, and Section 608 EPA CFC Universal License.
- Certified: 12 months to obtain a City of Seattle Grade 2 Steam Engineer License and qualify for $2.00/hour additional premium.
- Desired: Cross Connection Specialist (CCS) certification, Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT) certification, Operator In Training (OIT) certification, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) monitoring experience, NICET, WABO and/or Plumbing skills (and knowledge of code), as well as, metal fabrication.

Skills
- Driver’s License: Required to possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License in order to travel to local project sites.
- Work Schedule: May be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. Shifts are 4x10.
- Work Environment: Generally works indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. May be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Benefits/Pay
- Minimum Salary: $65.40 = $136,032/yr Grade 3, $67.75/hour = $140,920/yr Grade 2, Swing +10%, Graveyard +15%, Annual License 100% Reimbursement, 1.5x OT for 11th hour worked, 2.0x DT for 12th hour+ worked, 2.0x DT over 55 hours/week worked, 13 Paid Holidays (11 designated, 2 personal, 10 hours each), 2.0x time worked on holidays, Vacation 80 hours/year first 3 years, 120 hours for years 3-10, 160 hours for years 11-15, 200 hours for years over 15, minimum 80 hours/yr Sick leave, 50 hours/yr LWOP allowed, paid Jury Duty, paid Bereavement 30-50 hours per occurrence, 100% paid Medical, 16.5% gross compensation employer paid to Pension, $170/yr Safety Shoe Stipend, Training opportunities available.
