About the role
Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Open Bridges Designer to support the delivery of complex bridge and transportation infrastructure projects. In this role, you will develop intelligent 3D bridge models, produce construction documentation, and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to advance digital delivery and BIM excellence across our transportation practice. Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain intelligent 3D bridge models using Bentley OpenBridge Designer (OBD) and OpenBridge Modeler (OBM).
- Create bridge superstructure and substructure geometry based on engineering design requirements.
- Generate 2D construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and detailing directly from digital bridge models.
- Coordinate bridge models with roadway alignments, terrain models, utilities, and other civil infrastructure data.
- Produce quantity take-offs, reports, and project deliverables from BIM models.
- Perform quality control reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements, client standards, and company procedures.
- Support clash detection, constructability reviews, and model coordination efforts.
- Collaborate closely with bridge engineers, BIM managers, CAD technicians, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Maintain project data within ProjectWise and other document management systems.
- Assist with the development of modeling standards, workflows, and digital delivery best practices.
- Support training initiatives and the adoption of Bentley bridge design technologies across project teams.
Requirements
- Associate's degree, technical diploma, bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience using Bentley products in an engineering, architectural, or infrastructure environment.
- Experience using Bentley OpenBridge Designer (OBD) and/or OpenBridge Modeler (OBM).
- Working knowledge of MicroStation.
- Understanding of bridge engineering principles, construction methods, and transportation infrastructure projects.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and design criteria.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Transportation (DOT) bridge projects.
- Knowledge of BIM workflows, digital delivery processes, and model-based design practices.
- Experience with ProjectWise, LEAP Bridge, or other Bentley applications.
- Bentley OpenBridge accreditation and/or certification.
- Familiarity with AASHTO bridge design standards and guidelines.

Pay
The expected salary for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $84,000 - $103,000. The expected salary for this position in San Diego, CA is $86,000 - $105,000.
Schedule
This is a full-time, regular position. Our hybrid approach centers on an in-office culture, with most of your time spent collaborating face-to-face and a minimum of three days per week in the office. You and your manager can choose how to balance flexibility with connection to meet client, team, and personal commitments.
