The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Pediatric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice. Selected candidates will choose a track aligned with their area of excellence. The primary clinical site is Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) in Colorado Springs, CO.

About the Role

The chief responsibility is ensuring optimal outcomes for pediatric patients undergoing surgical operations and painful invasive or diagnostic procedures. The role involves primarily clinical duties with occasional teaching and service responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Personally provide anesthesia care 100% of the time, including pre- and post-anesthesia patient evaluation, order writing, and post-anesthesia follow-up.
  • Manage anesthesia for pediatric subspecialties, including but not limited to pediatric surgery, ENT (including craniofacial), urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, trauma, gastroenterology, and acute pain.
  • Perform regional anesthesia and provide services in operating rooms, radiology, and on-call shifts (in-house and pager).
  • Contribute to medical student and fellow education at the bedside, with no research expectations.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in Colorado by the effective hire date.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology, or equivalent foreign certification.
  • Fellowship-trained in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
  • ACLS and PALS certification required at hire; ATLS certification required within one year.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
  • Experience teaching Anesthesiology.
  • Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA) required for board-certified faculty.

Pay

Starting salary range: $352,000 for both Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice. Additional variable pay of up to $213,000 available through a clinical day equivalent (CDE) compensation model. The role follows a competitive leave program.
