Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively to continually provide students optimal support and experiences
  • Participate in academic performance hearings
  • Provide guidance to students on various study skills and strategies for learning
  • Provide faculty development in teaching and evaluation strategies and current technologies appropriate to the department
  • Provide curricular support to all students on the Savannah Campus
  • Engage and supports the COM in curriculum and program development
  • Conduct assessment of curriculum, student achievement and learning technologies on regular basis and presents to COM administrators and faculty
  • Research current trends and new technologies in health care education to advise and counsel faculty for purposes of curricular design, modification and implementation
  • Participate in department and college wide committees
  • Provide and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation and consultation
  • Maintain a personal and professional development plan which must include teaching, research, scholarly activity and service to assure growth and currency within the health professions field
  • Display behavior consistent with professional ethics

Required Qualifications

  • Must have five years of related educational experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
  • Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of effective teaching in clinical, small group and large group classroom teaching, and leadership roles in courses.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, experience in faculty development, and a commitment to work productively with a team of medical educators from clinical and basic science disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively and independently, problem solve, think critically, and demonstrate flexibility.
  • Evidence of innovation and scholarship in medical education is also desired.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

  • This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
  • The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
  • Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation’s largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG’s expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs.
