About the role

The Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation provides strategic leadership for the Law School’s academic-success and bar-readiness program. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director will assess, enhance, and reimagine program components to support students and graduates from matriculation through bar admission. Responsibilities include identifying and supporting at-risk students, designing and delivering workshops and resources, aligning the program with evolving accreditation and licensure standards (including the NextGen bar exam), teaching one academic-success course each semester, providing individualized advising and coaching, and developing and teaching bar-preparation courses. The Director will have substantial opportunity to shape the structure and delivery of the Law School’s bar-readiness program.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the academic-success and bar-readiness program.
• Assess, enhance, and reimagine program components to support students from matriculation through bar admission.
• Collaborate with faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and external partners to identify and support students at risk of academic or bar-exam underperformance.
• Design and deliver workshops, programs, and resources to promote student achievement, professional development, bar readiness, and licensure success.
• Align the program with evolving accreditation standards and licensure requirements, including the NextGen bar exam.
• Teach one academic-success course each fall and spring semester.
• Provide individualized advising and coaching to students.
• Develop and teach bar-preparation and related courses.

Requirements

• J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the legal academy and/or profession.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in academic success, teaching, academic support/skills programming, bar preparation, student affairs, advising, or related areas at the law school level.
• Demonstrated understanding of the evolving attorney licensure landscape, including the NextGen Bar Exam.
• Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment that responds effectively to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated administrative and program-assessment abilities.
• Experience teaching legal writing.
• Previous legal practice experience.

Appointment Terms

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position eligible for five-year, presumptively renewable long-term contracts. The initial appointment will be for one year (for those on track toward a long-term contract) or five years (for those appointed with a long-term contract), depending on experience. Renewals will be based on performance.
