Ontario City Library - K-6 Literacy Tutor (25/26) - FWS Only

About the role

The Ontario City Library is seeking individuals who are passionate about helping elementary school students develop and strengthen their literacy skills. Rise, the library’s literacy service, includes a tutoring program for children in grades K–6. Tutors will receive training on how to help students learn to read.

Responsibilities

• Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group tutoring to elementary school students (grades K–6) to improve literacy skills.
• Participate in training sessions on effective reading instruction techniques.
• Assist with program activities as needed at the Ovitt Family Community Library.

Requirements

• Ability to pass a fingerprint review (background check) as necessary.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Reliable transportation to and from the community partner site(s).
• Dependable and punctual.
• Calm and patient demeanor.
• Good communication skills.
• Positive attitude.
• Safety conscious.
• Must be a currently enrolled ULV student with an active Federal Work Study award.

Qualifications

• Organized and detail‑oriented with a high level of accuracy.
• Customer service and/or clerical experience (preferred).
• Adept with computers and technology.

Schedule

Shifts may be scheduled anytime on the following days and times:

• Monday – Thursday: 3:00 PM – 9:15 PM
• Friday: 2:00 PM – 6:15 PM
• Saturday: 10:00 AM – 6:15 PM
