About the Role

The Release of Information Specialist I is responsible for initiating and managing the medical record release process using specialized software. This role ensures that requests are processed accurately and efficiently, maintaining compliance with privacy regulations. The position contributes to the organization's operations by supporting timely access to medical records while safeguarding sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Process medical record release of information (ROI) requests promptly and accurately
  • Utilize Verisma software applications to manage requests
  • Assist in resolving HIPAA-related release issues
  • Organize records and documents to complete the release process
  • Read and interpret medical records, forms, and authorizations
  • Provide professional customer service in person, by phone, or via email
  • Maintain compliance and confidentiality using provided reference materials
  • Attend required training sessions
  • Support effective department and organizational operations through assigned duties

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
  • RHIT certification preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years medical record experience
  • Minimum of 2 years clerical or office work experience
  • Proficiency with office equipment, including computers, scanners, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Healthcare setting experience preferred
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and related state regulations preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail
