About the role
Morgan Advanced Materials is seeking an experienced and highly adaptable HR Manager to support two manufacturing operations in Hayward, California. This is a fully onsite, multi-site leadership role supporting both a non-union metals manufacturing operation and a unionized ceramics manufacturing facility within a shared site footprint. This engagement is expected to span 24 months, with a gradual wind-down period toward the conclusion of the assignment. The ceramics operation is currently projected for closure in 2028, making this a critical role focused on workforce transition planning, organizational change management, labor relations, and operational HR leadership during a period of transformation.
Responsibilities
- Leading all people-related activities across both manufacturing operations
- Managing the full employee lifecycle including: Recruitment and onboarding
- Employee engagement and communications
- Performance management
- Reward and recognition programs
- Employee relations and investigations
- Labor relations and union engagement
- HR administration and compliance
- Supporting workforce transitions, restructuring activities, and future site closure planning
- Providing professional HR guidance and coaching to people leaders
- Ensuring compliance with all federal, California, and labor regulations
- Administering employee health, welfare, and benefit programs, including 401(k)
- Managing disciplinary procedures, grievances, and union negotiations
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives and supporting organizational change projects
- Collaborating with global HR colleagues and cross-functional business leaders
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience, ideally within manufacturing environments
- Multi-site HR leadership experience, preferably within a large multinational organization
- Minimum 3 years of experience administering employee benefits, welfare plans, and 401(k) programs
- Strong experience supporting workforce reductions, restructures, or site closures
- Excellent knowledge of: US and California labor laws, Trade union relations, Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) compliance, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, and related regulations
- Proven experience managing employee relations, grievance processes, disciplinary matters, and labor negotiations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and coach at all levels
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and compliance standards
- Advanced proficiency with: Microsoft Office, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred
- SHRM Certification strongly preferred
