Online Mathematics - Adjunct Instructor
Teaching
Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject. Teaching encompasses four components: Instructional Design, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Effectiveness and Instructional Expertise.
Scholarly and Creative Engagement
Engage in scholarly and or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, professional organizations participation, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
Institutional Responsibility
Performing assigned or presumed duties according to one’s role at the college. These Activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college. These responsibilities include: participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part-time teaching faculty; participate in required department, committee and college meetings, adhere to college and VCCS policies, perform assigned duties and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty and staff.
Service
Quality participation and commitment to students, college and or community organizations, which is an expectation of one’s activities as a professional educator. Activities in this domain are differentiated college representation, college citizenship, and community citizenship.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Minimum of master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics
- Online teaching certification
- Ability to design and implement curriculum that aligns elements of student learning to the student’s educational goals
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varied academic competences
- Knowledge of methods to effectively teach Mathematics online
- Ability to use various technologies for communication, organization of data and course materials, presentations, etc
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning
- Experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for group or one-on one settings
- Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline
Additional Considerations
- Online teaching experience
- Community college or four-year college teaching experience
- Experience with alternative delivery methods to include online delivery, hybrid and hyflex course options, content software web-enhancements, etc
- Willingness to incorporate AI into Mathematics education
- Experience with incorporating AI into education
Pay
$793 per credit hour - Minimum Salary
Schedule
May include work during the day, evening, or weekends. As needed by the institution during the academic year. Adjunct teaching responsibilities vary as needed by the institution and shall include such combinations on- and off- campus, day, evening, distance learning, and weekend classes. Individuals hired to teach courses in an adjunct capacity may only teach a total of 12 workload credits in each term (fall and spring) and 8 workload credits in the summer term.
