Online Adjunct Faculty

About the Role

At a university that is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, our instructors have the unique opportunity to offer testimony and gospel perspective while sharing expertise in their discipline. Many who teach for BYU-Idaho, Ensign College, and BYU-Pathway Worldwide do so out of a desire to give back and bless the lives of future generations. Teaching online is ideal for those who value a flexible work/life schedule. Instructors have the flexibility to schedule those hours around their other obligations.

Online instructors are employees of OLL Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of BYU-Idaho which is supported and guided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Online instructors employed by the LLC are expected to support the missions, values, and standards of the institutions to which they are assigned to teach. All employees are required to agree to maintain the standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as defined by the Church Educational System Honor Code. They guide students to become capable disciple leaders in their personal and professional lives.

Pay

Pay starts at $1,250 per load hour. Load hours depend on credits per class and whether grading assistance is provided.

• Instructors with a master’s degree or higher: $1,350 per load hour
• Instructors with a bachelor’s degree: $1,250 per load hour
• Additional related duties (leadership, course improvement, training, etc.) may be compensated at $1,400 to $1,610 per load hour

No benefits are offered besides access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Curriculum

Online curriculum is pre-developed by BYU-Idaho and Ensign College content experts with the help of instructional designers. Typically, instructors do not do live video lectures.

Requirements

• Hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Ecclesiastical Clearance required)
• Master’s degree or higher (unless otherwise stated in the job posting)
• Work experience in a related field is preferred
• Online and/or classroom teaching experience is helpful but not required
• Must reside in one of the following authorized states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming

Current part-time employees of any entity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may not teach online in addition to their current employment. Retirees of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints entities are not eligible as it negates retirement benefits.

Application Process

• Application Submission: Candidates apply to course-specific interest list posting(s)
• Preliminary Screening: Application information is screened to confirm online instructor eligibility requirements
• Expert Review: Review of application materials by a content expert
• Assessment Course: Successfully pass the one-week online asynchronous Candidate Assessment Course (by invitation only). The course gauges online teaching skills, communication, support of BYU-Idaho’s Mission and Learning Model, and technology aptitude
• Eligible for Hire: If a candidate qualifies, assessments are retained for future consideration as hiring needs arise

Application information remains active for two years. Candidates may submit multiple applications, and notifications are sent via email and text. Final hiring decisions are contingent upon obtaining an ecclesiastical clearance.
