Position Summary

A one-year-long Research Fellowship is available under the supervision of Dr. Sergio Almécija (AMNH). This is a full-time position to study the motion of wild apes as a part of a multi-institutional collaborative project.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing, processing, digitizing, and analyzing 3D kinematic data from apes.
  • This includes digitizing anatomical landmarks on raw videos, calibration of 2D into 3D data, and creating code to calculate biomechanical variables (e.g., joint angles).
  • Participation in data analysis and interpretation to aid in drafting figures and text for publication.
  • Working with other lab group members as a mentor and collaborator on research projects and laboratory procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a science or technical field required.
  • Background in coding (Matlab and/or R) required.
  • Strong interest in furthering their biomechanical/coding skill set development and in developing their CV through publications and abstract submissions.
